The environment is the place that surrounds us. It is a gift of nature and it is the natural world of water, land, air and change. The environment is what we call home. Did you know that every day the environment is somehow getting damaged or destroyed?
There are many examples of environmental problems that affect our environment. E.g. global warming
There are also several ways humans effect our environment. For example the removal of fish from the oceans and timber from tropical forests. There are so many new things to learn about the environment and so many ways to take action for our eco-system by protecting it, why wait?
Do you all want a healthy environment because I do. As people of Canada we believe,
Clean air, water and land keep us healthy and are a human right we’re all free to have;
Canada’s many plants and animals and our natural heritage should be protected for the benefit of everyone, now and into the future;
The beauty and variety of nature are at the heart of what it means to be Canadian;
Canada should stand with more than 100 countries where the right to a healthy environment is recognized in law – including the charter.
For that reason we ask that:
1. The right to a healthy environment is included in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms;
2. All levels of government pass a law or make stronger laws recognizing and protecting the right to a healthy environment.
Unlike the charter of over 100 countries, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms mentions nothing about our right to a healthy environment. The David Suzuki Foundation and Ecojustice are working together to change this.
If you believe that all Canadians should have the right to a healthy environment, please add your voiceto this petition. Your signature will strengthen our request to our national leaders. To sign this petition go to: http://action2.davidsuzuki.org/healthy_environment_petition
