Happy Family Day to everyone! This holiday celebrates the importance of families and what they mean to us. Family Day happens every year on the third Monday of February..technically there is no specific date for it. On this day, adults generally don’t have work and kids don’t go to school.

On Family Day, many families do activities together such as visiting art exhibitions, watching movies, skating on outdoor ice rinks, playing board games and taking part in craft activities. Some communities plan special public events, and art galleries and museums may have reduced prices or free entry. Since the weather is cold, many people drink hot chocolate and eat freshly baked cookies. Other people go on “short winter breaks” or to travel to visit family members or friends.

If you never knew, Family Day first started in 2008. Why? Well, because in 2007 when Dalton McGuinty was running for Ontario’s premier, he promised that if he got elected, he would establish this provincial holiday. That’s how it got started…as a promise!

Anyways, once again Happy Family Day to all.
