- Dream summer vacation?
Let’s see…anywhere in Europe. Sightseeing there would be magnificent and delicious food is always something I need, whether it’s gelato in Italy or the chocolate in Switzerland.
- Favourite summertime drink?
Either lemonade, which is the classic, or the creamy chocolate chill from TIMMIES!
- S’mores or Ice cream?
I really can’t pick. S’mores ice cream, maybe? Is that even a thing?
- Would you rather spend a summer day outside at the pool or inside watching Netflix?
Even though this sounds shallow, Netflix, unless it’s at the pool with my friends.
- Most fun summer memory?
When our cousins held a bbq on Canada Day, and invited the majority of our relatives. We even set off fireworks at dusk.
- Fave summer nail polish?
A pastel colour, perhaps, or any shade of pink.
- Sunglasses or a hat?
Sunglasses for sure.
- Fave summer scent?
I’m actually not sure, are there summer scents? Most people say pina colada smells good…
- Fave bbq food?
- Bikinis or one pieces?
One pieces, I’m not up for the exposure with a bikini.
- Summertime book recommendations?
Paper Towns by John Green
- Fave summer song?
Dirty Work by Austin Mahone
- Hobbies to keep up during the summer?
Reading, writing, blogging, photography
- Daily activities in the summer?
GOING TO THE PARK WITH ALL MY FRIENDS, using too much technology, and hanging out with my baby brother.
- Plans for the summer?
Well, I’m going to the mall with Jen and Ravanya, Blue Mountain Resort overnight stay, Canada’s Wonderland with Pri Pri. My awesome uncle’s coming from London, so we’re taking him to Niagara Falls, the CN Tower, and showing him around downtown. Otherwise, everything’s the usual.
THAT’S MY SUMMERTIME TAG! Hope y’all are having a great summer and make the most of it.
If you have been reading my blog for awhile, I have mentioned one of my friends in the past, Maathurya aka erratic_styles (username on wattpad). Well, she’s a writer, and blogger just like me. In the last year or so, she has been writing stories on a site named Wattpad.

Users can also write stories, and there are many benefits to writing on Wattpad. The stories found on Wattpad are free, and as a user, you can create reading lists and add books to your library.
As I said earlier, she has been writing a story on Wattpad recently, by the name of Abducted by Styles. ABS is about a princess named Caroline, who falls in love with a guard named Harry Styles. They are separated because of the wrath of their two kingdoms. Abducted by Styles is about a heart wrenching romance that becomes risky journey, but this is more than just a love story. As you may know, if you have been reading my posts for quite a while, I love the YouTuber iiSuperwomanii, a.k.a. Lilly Singh, she is my idol. As mentioned in my other post about her, she is a Canadian who lives with her parents, believes in one love, entertains people for a living, and makes all sorts of videos including rants, types of people, my parents react, comedy sketches, and positive motivation. She is one happy unicorn, sassy, and always ready to make you laugh.
Recently, she has been making a lot of music videos/writing songs on her YouTube channel, professionally. Her first debut, featuring Humble the Poet, was called #LEH, basically meaning disapproval or “pfft” in Punjabi and other South Asian slang to sum up the reality we all live in. Hate your parents but still live at home without paying rent? Leh. Borrow money from a friend, but never pay it back? Leh. Rolling around in your parent’s car, pretending you own it? Leh. The song is a reminder of the society we live in today, and life before adulthood.
The Clean Up Anthem was her second hit. Lilly makes a series of daily vlogs, to let her viewers know what she does everyday. If she ever goes on vacation, she shares her highlights, and through her vlogs, you get to see a peek of the life behind a YouTuber, who does it for a living. On December 5th, 2014, she freestyled in her vlog, about cleaning up her room. A fan by the name of Sickick, took her vocals, and remixed it into a song, hereby known as, the Clean Up Anthem. As soon as this video released, everyone knew cleaning would never be the same, and that partying while cleaning is a must.
Her most recent song, featuring Humble the Poet, once more, is known as “IVIVI” and was released less than a week ago. Some of you might not live in Toronto, but I’ll have you know that in Toronto, we have our great urban landscapes and blocks of diverse neighbourhoods, and this song, shows our city pride. From the Raptors, to the cold, to the multiculturism, the music video filmed in several famous landmarks in Toronto, is defined as a part of who we are. IVIVI stands for 416 in roman numerals, which is our most popular area code (for phones), and the music video, which was released on April 16th, (4.16 once again), needs no further explanation. With Indian music playing in the background, and IVIVI being repeatedly pronounced, the song is catchy and fun to listen to it. With the Toronto Raptors playing in the NBA, and the Blue Jays back in for another season, this song celebrates all things Toronto.
Lilly ain’t no international, worldwide famous popstar (not yet, at least), but with the 5 million subscribers she has, she is bound to have many fans around the world, listening to her songs, day and night.
Did you know that for every dollar a man makes, a woman makes 76 cents in America, and it’s been like that for 10 years now. Gender inequality is making our world a less awesome place to live in, and not just in the U.S. One in 9 girls are married before the age of 15, and each day 800 woman die from preventable causes related to childbirth and pregnancy. Those are just a couple of reasons of why today needs to exist.
Int’l Women’s Day is a day to celebrate the beautiful and strong women in our communities around the world. When we invest in women and girls, it’s a brighter future for everyone.
Today’s Google Doodle is a representation that women in our modern society can aspire to become anybody they want to be. You name it, they can do it. Scientist, musician, athlete, engineer….anything.
Starting today, work to make gender inequality non-existent, and make the world a better place for today. Start by signing petitions ending child marriagesr supporting online funds hat support maternal health programs around the world. Be a mentor by giving advice, time and support to a woman or girl who you think would appreciate your help. Consider a position or encourage a woman to get involved politics, we need more voices to be heard. See a woman-directed or produced movie and support their work. Last but not least, remember that feminism isn’t just for females, so ladies, get out there, and tell your man how they can help make the world more fair for woman. Respect the women in your life and be kind to them.
So today, my class went on a trip to a historic site, Fort York, which is located in Downtown Toronto, near the CN Tower, and the Air Canada Centre. First, we met our tour guide and watched a video all about why Fort York is so important to the history of Toronto. Fort York is Canada’s largest collection of the original War of 1812 buildings and the 1813 battlesite. Then, we went to the cabin in which all the soldiers slept. With only 8 bunkbeds, 32 soldiers slept in one cabin. It was shocking to learn that, because I can’t even share a room with my sister, let alone 32 strangers. We got to try on the uniform, and it was actually really heavy. Next, we went to the place where the soldiers lived, the soldiers got three rooms all to theirselves. WHAT PRIVILEGES THEY HAD. Soon after that, we got to go to the kitchen and look at how they cooked their food back then, and what their specialties were. That was one of my favourite parts, since I am a food addict. On the menu, the only thing I would have actually ate for the main course was cauliflower and Parmesan cheese, because all the other options were body parts of animals. EEYUCK! Then, we went to the basement, and looked at the wine cellar. We got to walk in, even though it was really dark and small. It turns out that in history, they eventually turned the wine cellar into a money vault, since soldiers began to doubt banks. Soon, we went to the Canteen Museum Store a.k.a. The Gift Shop. There were some really fascinating books, and expensive items using animals. After, we went to the building, explaining all about the weapons that soldiers used and how they attacked during the war. It was so interesting, and we did a fun scavenger hunt. We had to find a bayonet, a musket ball and a green coat, which I wasn’t first to find. Last but not least, we got to do a practice drill using the wood muskets, the fake ones. We charged at each other, and soon we were all out of breath. Finally, it was time to go back to school, me and all my friends sang opera, so we decided to start a singing group called Metal Soap. I also made some new friends, Rohana and Ashwinee. I enjoyed the day, learning about the history of the War of 1812. It made me realize how different Canada would be if it wasn’t for the War of 1812.
International Women’s Day is coming up on March 8. Today, YouTube launched a #DearMe campaign to celebrate woman, and encourage video creators to support teenage girls. The initiative asks women to tell their subscribers the answer to the question: “If you could go back in time, what wisdom would you share with your teenage self?”
YouTube like Hannah Hart, Lily Singh and Michelle Phan have shared their words and YouTube even put together a video to explain the kind of messages #DearMe strives to use to empower young women. YouTube is asking YouTubers all around the world to upload video letters to their younger selves, providing advice and encouragement they wish they’d heard earlier in their lives. You can also participate in the campaign by using the hashtag #DearMe on social media, or making a GIF through YouTube’s Tumblr page.
Megan Nicole is a 21 year old, who has a passion for singing and songwriting. Using YouTube as her platform, she started off recording covers of hit songs by Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Selena Gomez, Lorde and many others artists. Eventually, she got discovered by Bad Boy Records, and released an album of her own songs. Her pieces are fun, simple and colourful, just like her personality. The piano and guitar made her fall in love with music, and pursue a career in it. In 2014, her talents didn’t go unnoticed as she went on her first headline tour throughout Europe, attended the Radio Disney Music Awards, AMAs, released her first album EP, ESCAPE., and gained a total of 2 million YouTube subscribers. This year, so far she is in the process of making a movie called Summer Forever which is set to come out in August 2015, based on her song Summer Forever. She just finished filming two days ago, actually. If you don’t know her yet, check out some of her work below and follow her on the web. I’ll write soon, but in the meanwhile, I am going to go and dance to some of her original songs 😉
No one’s born happy, but no one’s born unhappy either. It’s all up to us to make ourselves feel happy. We all want to be happy. We might think that if things were different, we’d be happier, but that’s not really how happiness works.
Being happy, in a way, depends on personality. Some people are just naturally cheery, optimistic and all smiles no matter what situation they are put in. We all know at least one person who maintains that positive outlook in life. Their upbeat personalities make it easier for them to be happy. Although, some people might see the faults in people and situations instead of the good. They might just ruin the happiness revolution for other people, by being grumpy and glum, but they just don’t know how to keep themselves happy.
According to case studies, researchers have found that being happy is within our control. A big part of how happy we are depends on our mindset, the habits we practice, and the way we live each day. These are the ingredients to the happiness recipe.
-Positive emotions (E.g. Gratitude. Love. Amazement. Delight. Playfulness. Humor. Inspiration. Compassion. Hope. Creativity. Interest. Excitement. Enjoyment. Calm)
-Strengths and Interests (The things we’re good at, we like to do and our good qualities)
-Good Relationships (Make us feel like we have a sense of belonging, and learn how to express emotions, show gratitude, use empathy, and kindness)
-Finding Meaning and Purpose in Life (Note: Making a mark, and knowing how you want to be remembered in the future. E.g. Making a Difference, Helping Others)
-Achievements/Victories (A sense of never giving up, and doing your best
Procedure: Mix them all together and you have happiness 🙂
Happiness is more than a yellow smiley face, it’s a feeling when we’re truly enjoying life and we’re making the best out of it. Happy people live longer, live to become successful, are healthier and have healthy relationships with others.
This Wednesday, February 25th, take a stand against bullying and wear a pink shirt day to honour National Pink Shirt Day. The story behind the pink shirt is that a grade 9 boy wore a pink shirt on his first day of school, and got bullied. Two students in grade 12 decided enough was enough and bought 50 pink shirts. They emailed everyone they knew to wear pink the next day to stand up for the grade 9 student. The next day, hundreds of students showed up wearing pink. The grade 9 student walked in a smile, surprised but happy. He knew that those bullies would soon stop, and that he was not alone. The pink shirt has now become a symbol against bullying. February 25th is a day we come together, creating a sea of pink. So this Wednesday, wear a pink shirt and remind others to be better people and create a more safer, friendlier community. Change starts with one shirt, one person, one school and one community.
There has been some curiosity as to whether or not there would be a sequel to the Frozen. Yesterday, Disney confirmed that Frozen Fever will be coming out on March 13, 2015 just in time for the spring break. Of course I am going to watch it, but it’s only a short animated feature that is 7 minutes long. Although, I am excited. Olaf, will be back with his white flurry floating around him. This time, the story is about Kristoff and Elsa planning a party for Anna’s Birthday! More hit songs are yet to come….
UPDATE: Frozen Fever is coming out on March 13, 2015 in theaters. When you pay to watch the movie Cinderella, that’s coming out on March 13th as well, you can watch Frozen Fever too.
